Kindly be informed that with effect from 19 March 2018, for security purposes, it is mandatory to book an appointment in advance in order to be allowed inside a VFS office for submitting a visa application for Italy. Appointments can be booked 24 hours prior to the date of submission. This applies to all categories of visas. VFS strongly reccomend planning your travel well in advance and booking a suitable appointment accodingly.
