VISA - Travel to Italy

As per the CoViD19 pandemic crisis the European Union external borders are actually closed to third countries citizens.

The decision will be revised by the relevant Authorities every 15 days.

Hence at the moment Indian passport holders are allowed to travel to Italy only under the following circumstances:

1. Holder of valid resident permit (“permesso di soggiorno”);

2. Holder of re-entry visa* issued after July 15, 2020;

3. Holder of national (D) visa for family reunion;

4. Holder of national (D) visa for employment;

5. Seafarers holding a valid visa.

All the other categories stay temporarily suspended.

Since July 15, 2020 VFS Centre will reinstate its operation exclusively for the above mentioned visa categories.

For updated information about the VFS Centres please check the following website: https://visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/ita/

It will not be possible at the moment to apply for other visa categories.

The Consulate General of Italy in Mumbai will accept visa requests received exclusively through VFS Office. No direct requests will be allowed.

*Who needs a re-entry visa:

2. Holders of an Italian stay permit expired between January 31 and July 31, 2020 flying back to Italy with a layover in another Schengen country.

Please note that holders of an Italian stay permit expired between January 31 and July 31, 2020 and flying back on a flight with a layover exclusively in a NON-Schengen country do not need to apply for a re-entry visa but have to seek for a declaration issued by this Consulate General. Finally, holders of an Italian stay permit expired between January 31 and July 31, 2020 and flying back on a direct flight from India to Italy do not need to apply for a re-entry visa and do not have to seek for a declaration issued by this Consulate General.
