The International Coffee Day was celebrated for the first time in Mumbai on the 1st of October.  The Consul General Walter Ferrara welcomed guests at the “Affogato” café in Bandra, Mumbai to honour this beverage — an icon of Italian culture and a symbol of international recognition for Italy.

International Coffee Day, officially launched at Milan Expo 2015 by the International Coffee Organization, brings together millions of enthusiasts and leading companies from the sector every year through initiatives organized worldwide.

The event, held in collaboration with the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lavazza, and Relations at Work, welcomed representatives from the coffee industry, including roasting, machinery imports and large-scale distribution.

This convivial morning featured enthusiasts and connoisseurs coming together for the classic “coffee break”. Guests enjoyed espresso and sampled a variety of coffee-based granitas and ice creams.

At the heart of the event there was a celebration of coffee as a symbol of Italian culture and its vital role in relations between Italy and India. “It is a story that begins in Indian farms and ends in an Italian espresso cup — a journey of flavours and friendship” said Consul General Walter Ferrara in his greeting address, in which he underlined the value of coffee in uniting the Italian and Indian people.
