On the occasion of the 21st edition of the Italian Contemporary Art Day, the Consul General of Italy in Mumbai, Walter Ferrara, presented Portal to the Essence, a work from the Indigo Essence Series by Pesaro-born artist Shola Carletti.

The event was held at the premises of the Consulate General of Italy in Mumbai and saw the participation of prominent guests from the artistic and academic community.

The Contemporary Art Day, promoted by AMACI – the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums – with the support of the Ministry of Culture and in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is one of the most important events promoting Italian art at both the national and international level.

Shola Carletti has lived in India for many years, and in her works she explores color as a language of interiority. Indigo, the pigment at the center of Portal to the Essence, becomes a symbol of individual introspection as well as a color emblematic of the bond between Italy and India. “Shola, who has made India her home, embodies this bridge between our cultures, using color as a universal language to explore the depths of human experience,” said Consul General Ferrara.

Thanks to the artist’s donation, the work will become a permanent part of the Consulate’s collection.
