The Consul General of Italy in Mumbai, Walter Ferrara, welcomed the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Edoardo Rixi, on the occasion of his official visit to India.
As part of the India Maritime Week, the Deputy Minister held a bilateral meeting with India’s Minister of Ports Sarbananda Sonowal, and engaged in discussions with a delegation of leading Italian companies in the sector, including Fincantieri and Messina. The day concluded with a greeting to Prime Minister Modi, during his official visit to the event.
The India Maritime Week, organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways along with the Indian Ports Association, is a biennial event that serves as an international platform to showcase India’s maritime growth, strengthen global cooperation, and promote investments in the sector.
The India Maritime Week 2025 marked the first week-long edition and the fourth initiative dedicated to the maritime sector, following the summits held in 2016, 2021, and 2023. Over five days, the event brought together more than one million delegates and two hundred speakers from over 100 countries.
The visit, held within the framework of the Joint Action Plan signed last November, reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to deepen their fruitful ties. In particular, Deputy Minister Rixi and Minister Sonowal agreed on the need for closer cooperation in the ports and logistics sectors and reiterated their intention to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on ports, accompanied by a dedicated working group for its implementation.
