India, with its burgeoning demographic strength and rapidly expanding domestic market, is set to take a leading role in the world economy, positioning itself as an export and investment destination as well as a base for re-exports to neighbouring countries.
From 2014 to date, the government led by Prime Minister Modi, currently in his third term, has implemented a programme of reforms inspired by a ‘self-reliant’ country model and aimed at fostering an increasing attraction of foreign direct investment. Pivotal to this medium- to long-term objective are the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Assemble in India for the world’ programmes, aimed at transforming India into a global manufacturing hub by revitalising the manufacturing sector and increasing the country’s competitiveness.

THE ACTORS OF THE ITALY SYSTEM IN INDIA
Law 214/2011 instituted the ‘Cabina di Regia’ as an operational tool to better coordinate the country’s policies and strategies on internationalisation, promoting a common and concrete commitment of the Government, territorial institutions and the business world and coordinating initiatives for promotion, market analysis and penetration tools as well as the use of financial resources towards specific and shared objectives.
The Steering Committee is co-chaired by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Economic Development and composed of the Minister of Economy and Finance, or a person designated by him, the President of the Permanent Conference for Relations between the State, the Regions and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano and the Presidents of the Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture (Unioncamere), the General Confederation of Italian Industry (Confindustria), R.E.TE. Imprese Italia and the Italian Banking Association (ABI). The Minister for Regional Affairs, Tourism and the Minister for Agriculture, Food Sovereignity and Forests have been associated with the exercise since the first meeting of the Steering Committee.
In this way, the government intended to bring together around one table the most important players in the internationalisation process of our economy and to give systematic coordination for a more effective foreign projection of our production fabric.
This integrated system is being replicated abroad, through increased coordination between the respective peripheral branches of the entities that are part of the Cabina di Regia, within the framework of the management, supervision and coordination functions of the Italian Ambassador in New Delhi.
