Documents to be submitted
- Application for registration of the birth certificate (Download the updated form);
- The child’s birth certificate, issued by the competent authorities of the Indian State in which the child was born and legalised with an Apostille, duly translated into Italian (see list of recommended translators);
- Photocopies of the parents’ and child’s passports or valid identity documents (passport or Aadhaar card);
In addition:
- Full birth certificate of the parent, issued by the Italian Municipality where the parent was born;
- Full birth certificate of the grandparent, issued by the Italian Municipality where the grandparent was born;
- Historical certificate of residence issued by the Italian Municipalities where the grandparent resided;
- If the grandparent lived in a foreign country: a certificate issued by the competent authorities of the foreign country of emigration, legalised with an Apostille or through consular legalisation (for countries that are not signatories to the 1961 Hague Convention), and duly translated into Italian by means of an official translation, confirming that the Italian grandparent did not acquire the citizenship of the foreign country of emigration prior to the child’s birth;
- Any certificates or documents concerning renunciation of citizenship;
- Any other documentation suitable for providing evidence that the grandparent did not hold foreign citizenship.
