The Consulates ensure protection to all compatriots in the event of violation of their fundamental rights and limitation or deprivation of their personal freedom. Protection covers cases of death, accident or serious illness, arrest or detention, assistance to victims of acts of violence, aid and repatriation of citizens in difficulty. In addition, they provide assistance for emergencies, for the search for family members, for succession files opened abroad and for the repatriation of bodies. It is useful to know that in this case the related expenses are borne by the Italian citizens. The Consulate assists Italian citizens who need administrative procedures.
In this Consulate, Italian citizens have a register where they can write down their complaints about any inefficiencies, their observations and suggestions to improve the quality of our work.
Some services provided by the Consulate are free of charge, while others are subject to a fee.

SERVICES FOR ITALIAN CITIZENS RESIDING IN THE CONSULAR DISTRICT
It is good to know that Italian citizens who have established their residence abroad must register in the Registry of Italians residing abroad (AIRE). Registration is free and can also be done at the Consulates.
With regard to Italian citizens residing in the consular district, the Consulate takes care of and prepares the procedures concerning:
- the drafting and transcription of civil status documents
- the documents required for marriage banns
- the issuance and renewal of passports and identity cards (the latter only for citizens registered with AIRE)
- the renewal of the driving license (only for citizens registered with AIRE)
- acts relating to citizenship
- the acts relating to military service
- notarial deeds and wills
- translation and self-certification of documents
- customs certificates related to repatriation
- acts concerning the electoral service
- pensions and social assistance
- subsidies and assistance to indigent Italian citizens.
In addition, weddings can be celebrated at the Consulate.
SERVICES FOR ITALIAN CITIZENS NOT RESIDING IN THE CONSULAR JURISDICTION
The Consulate assists Italian citizens passing through the district in individual emergency situations:
- protecting their integrity, safety and personal freedom
- providing information on how and who to contact in case of need (doctors, treatment centers, lawyers, trusted translators)
- issuing a travel document free of charge necessary to return to Italy in the event that the passport or identity card has been stolen or lost.
It is useful to know that in order to obtain this document, the Italian citizen must:
- report to the local police authorities
- obtain a copy of the complaint
- submit a copy of the report to the Consulate together with two passport-sized photographs.
WHAT CONSULATES CANNOT DO
Italian Consulates may not:
- issue or renew identity cards to Italian citizens not registered with AIRE
- intervene in court on behalf of Italian citizens
- directly support health expenses or the costs of repatriating the bodies of Italian citizens who died in the district
- have their facilities used for private matters (make private phone calls, make hotel or travel reservations, exchange currency, provide interpreters, etc.).
