The Consulate General of Italy in Mumbai has initiated an experimental release of the Electronic Identity Card (CIE) for Italian citizens residing in the area. The application is made through the Prenot@MI platform, and the CIE is mailed within five weeks from the appointment.

The CIE is valid in the European Union and various Schengen Agreement member countries. The process involves online completion, payment via UPI, and submission of necessary documents.

The validity of the CIE varies based on the applicant’s age, with specific procedures for minors requiring the consent of both parents. The Consulate advises against requesting a new card in case of a change of address.

The experimental release provides a more efficient option, allowing users to track the shipment status online.
