The frigate Antonio Marceglia successfully completed its stopover at the port of Mumbai from 28 May to 1 June 2025. The visit was planned within the framework of bilateral Italian-Indian relations and the EU NAVFOR Atalanta mission, currently engaged in the fight against piracy offshore the Horn of Africa and in the western Indian Ocean.

The visit to the port of Mumbai was carried out along with the Spanish frigate Reina Sofia, with which a joint training was conducted together with the Indian Navy to test the readiness of the crews and the efficiency of their respective means and equipment.

Upon the frigate’s arrival in the port, Consul General Walter Ferrara visited the ship on board and welcomed the frigate Marceglia to Mumbai. In his greetings to the crew, Consul General Ferrara emphasised that a new step forward in the Italian naval diplomacy is achieved thanks to this stopover, stating that this initiative follows in the wake of the visit to Mumbai of the patrol vessel Morisini in August 2023, followed by the aircraft carrier Cavour and the frigate Alpino in Goa in October 2024, culminating with the historic stopover of the Vespucci last November in Mumbai.

The program unfolded in a series of activities, including an Industry Day, which brought together representatives of the Italian and Indian defence industries. The visit of the frigate Marceglia reaffirmed the bilateral growing interest to intensify the cooperation with regional partners.

The visit fell on the occasion of the celebrations of the Italian National Day organized by our Consulate General in Mumbai. This made possible for many crew members of of the Marceglia ship to be present in the event. The participation of dozens of sailors from our frigate in the National Day Celebration was particularly cherished by the guests as well as by the crew itself, adding a touch of style due to the prominent white uniforms present in the crowd.
