VALIDATION OF THE DRIVER’S LICENSE
The Italian license, expiring or expired, cannot be renewed abroad and must necessarily be replaced with a new one in Italy. In the case of licenses that are close to expiration (4 months) or expired for no more than 5 years, the Consulate can issue a validation certificate, which is only used to keep the license alive until the holder travels to Italy to apply for a new one.
The service is reserved for AIRE members and those who can prove their residence in India for at least 12 months.
Pursuant to Law 470/1988, if a citizen has moved his or her permanent residence to our daistrict, he or she is obliged to comply with the AIRE registration. Any elements provided to the undersigned in support of the consular services requested that prove an update of the civil status or personal data must be sent to his Municipality through this Office.
The necessary documentation
In order to renew the license it will be necessary to present to this Office, by appointment* the following:
- medical certificate issued by our trusted doctor, Dr. Jehanbux Chichgar, with office in Mumbai (see below)*, with whom you must make an appointment in advance by calling 0 98200 35734;

- the renewal request form (download here), duly completed;
- expired driving licence (no more than five years ago);
- two passport-size photographs.
- photocopy of your passport.
